Trash Wraps brighten Downtown Indianapolis – help visitors keep Downtown clean

Starting in late-February, nearly 200 Downtown trash receptacles will be dressed up with colorful trash wraps. The vibrant wraps are blue and green with the message “Put Litter in its Place” and “Keep Downtown Clean.” The goal of this initiative is to encourage consumers to put trash in its place and raise public awareness of Downtown cleanliness. The Trash Wrap program originated in 2000 when Indianapolis Downtown Inc.’s Cleaning Advisory Committee decided to transform trash receptacles. The program was introduced as part of NCAA Final Four preparations to the festive scene. The wraps were such a hit with visitors, businesses and the community, that they now appear every spring. Fact is I was ignorant of what Africa really looks like. Just like every rich country/continent has a poor area, so does Africa. The only difference is, Africa gets more media coverage on that due to documentary channels. Africa, just like the rest of the world, has its share of modern and prosperous cities like Johannesburg, which hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup final. This giant hub has begun introducing itself to a healthier diet of urban renewal.

Johannesburg has a dry sunny climate and the city enjoys mild temperatures between 26° and 16° due to the city’s high altitude. Maintained by City Parks, Johannesburg is one of the greenest cities of the world and has the largest man-made forest in the world. Not only that, the city has some of the tallest buildings in Africa.

The most popular sports participated by the locals are the Football, Cricket and Rugby. On Sundays, several athletic clubs organize informal runs that are participated by tens of thousands of runners.

The people in Johannesburg get around using buses, taxis, mass transits, trains or private transport. Johannesburg has four airports handling international and domestic flights. The freeways, more commonly known as highways are one of the major roads in Johannesburg.

Crime is a non-ignorable issue and tourists are warned to be careful and pay attention to personal security while visiting the city.

Even for feasible business cases, the failures often occurred because the merchants had to implement additional hardware/software requirements, and the customers had to prepay. In order for a real stored value system to work, the banks have to get behind it and adopt a standard which merchants can sign up for.

The success of the mobile operators will depend on the number of merchants or content providers who adopt the operators? billing systems. In order to attract customers, merchants are offering phone-customization features such as ring tones, games, screen savers, and music. It is a good market, but the real adoption will happen only when merchants can accept payments.

The retail model will see minimum success. Large retailers might develop loyal customers who would use smart cards or a stored value system offered by a financial services organization.
